Making product descriptions unique is a highly recommended way to set your website apart from the rest of the competition. This does not mean you have to reinvent the wheel, but doing some simple rewording of your suppliers product descriptions can make all the difference when it comes to competing in the online industry. Descriptions that are fresh, relevant and ultimately better than the competition will have a distinct advantage.
If you are using a drop-shipper or supplier to sell products, you have to keep in mind that it is very likely that there are other online businesses out there using the same supplier(s) you are and thus the same product descriptions. Your supplier is going to be seen as the originator of those descriptions and the one given credit by the search engines for that content. So again, to help set your business apart from the competition you will want to make your product descriptions unique to your website.
Below is an example of a before and after for a product description so that you can see just how easy it is to make them unique in a matter of minutes. The product we will be using for this example is the Nike Kobe XI Elite Low - Men's.

In the After section, highlighted in yellow is text that was simply reworded. The text highlighted in green is a new sentence we added to give our own personal touch to the product description. You will also notice that we bolded the keywords ‘basketball shoe’ and ‘basketball sneakers’ within the new description. Bolding these keywords help the search engines better understand what this particular product page is about and that those words are some of the most important words within the product description. NOTE: Bolding 2 to 3 different keywords that you found through your keyword research will suffice, any more than that is not necessary. Additionally, you never want to bold the same keyword twice.
